Austin Expansion

Apollo Picks Austin For Second Headquarters, Expanding Sun Belt Footprint

Apollo Chooses Austin For Second Headquarters, Expanding Texas Presence

Apollo Global Management has officially chosen Austin as the location for its second headquarters, highlighting the city’s continued rise as a destination for major corporate expansions and financial services growth.

Picked over markets: Apollo selected Austin after evaluating Sun Belt locations, including South Florida, as part of its strategy to expand in regions where it expects significant future growth. The firm said the city’s talent pool, technology ecosystem, and business environment made it the right fit for its next phase of expansion.

Focus on innovation: Apollo plans to use the Austin headquarters as a testing ground for emerging technology and new products across its asset management and retirement solutions business, Athene. The office will be led by Apollo partner Eric Needleman and Athene executive Mike Downing.

Long-term plans pending: The company is currently operating from a temporary downtown Austin office and expects to finalize a permanent lease within the next few months. Apollo has not yet disclosed the building or location it will choose for the long-term headquarters.

Texas’ appeal keeps growing: Apollo cited Texas’ strong business relationships, Fortune 500 presence, and leadership in industries such as semiconductors, defense, energy, and advanced manufacturing. The state recorded 200 corporate relocations between 2020 and 2024, reinforcing its reputation as a major destination for business expansion.

Austin attracts major employers: Apollo’s move adds to Austin’s growing list of corporate arrivals, following years of expansion from technology and industrial companies. Investments such as SpaceX’s planned $20B semiconductor manufacturing facilities further highlight the region’s increasing importance as a business and innovation hub.

➥ THE TAKEAWAY

Finding a new home in Austin: Apollo’s decision shows Austin’s evolution beyond a technology hotspot into a broader corporate market capable of attracting global financial institutions. While office demand remains selective nationwide, companies seeking talent and growth opportunities continue to favor high-quality markets like Austin.
