A major life sciences bet for Houston
BMS chose Texas after evaluating several markets across the Central and Eastern U.S. The company cited Houston’s life sciences workforce, transportation and utility infrastructure, available incentives, and business climate as key factors.
The announcement gives Generation Park another major anchor as it builds a 4,300-acre hub for life sciences and advanced manufacturing. For Houston’s industrial market, the project also shows how pharmaceutical manufacturing can drive demand beyond traditional warehouse and distribution uses.
The details
The planned Houston manufacturing campus will span approximately 600,000 square feet. BMS will use a modular, multi-modal design that can adapt as its drug pipeline changes.
The facility will produce small molecules, biologics, and antibody-drug conjugates. BMS can also add or reconfigure manufacturing capacity as commercial needs evolve.
The initial workforce will include operations technicians, production specialists, maintenance and engineering professionals, quality-control and assurance staff, and site leadership. BMS expects the project to create about 2,000 construction and indirect jobs between 2027 and 2030.
The campus is part of BMS’s broader plan to invest $40 billion in the U.S. over five years. The investment will span research and development, technology, and domestic manufacturing. BMS invested approximately $10 billion in R&D in 2025.
Generation Park gets a life sciences anchor
The BMS project strengthens Generation Park’s position as more than a conventional master-planned industrial development. Its available land, infrastructure, and access to Houston’s workforce make it well suited for large-scale manufacturing users with specialized facility needs.
BMS already has a presence in Texas. The company works with a contract manufacturer in the state and operated 250 clinical-trial sites there in 2025. The new campus expands that footprint with a large, long-term manufacturing operation in Houston.

The project could bring higher-value employment and new supplier demand to Houston’s industrial market. BMS says the U.S. biopharmaceutical industry directly employed more than 1 million workers in 2022. Including jobs supported through the industry’s employment multiplier, the sector accounted for more than 4.9 million jobs across the U.S. economy.
The real estate impact could extend well beyond the 600,000-square-foot campus. Large life sciences manufacturers support demand for construction, engineering, logistics, technical services, and suppliers.
