Chip Corridor

A small North Texas town is landing a major manufacturing win as the semiconductor supply chain continues expanding beyond Sherman.

By the numbers: Advanced Process Solutions (APS) plans to invest $40M into a new 100K SF manufacturing facility in Van Alstyne’s Cold Springs Industrial Park. Construction is expected to begin this summer and finish by early 2027.

Why Van Alstyne: APS cited the city’s proximity to Sherman — now a fast-growing semiconductor hub — and access to labor as key drivers behind the move. The company supplies major chipmakers, including Texas Instruments and GlobalWafers, and specializes in automation, plastic fabrication, and industrial field services.

Semiconductor ripple effect: Sherman has become ground zero for North Texas chip manufacturing investment. Texas Instruments is building a $40B semiconductor megasite there, while GlobalWafers and Coherent have launched multibillion-dollar facilities nearby. APS’ expansion reflects the growing ecosystem of suppliers forming around those anchor projects.

Economic impact: The facility is expected to create 175 jobs in Van Alstyne, a city with a population of just over 6,700 residents. City officials anticipate continued residential growth as semiconductor-related investment spreads across Grayson and Collin counties.

Growth fueling growth: Sherman’s population has climbed roughly 20% since 2020, helping attract additional development. Recent announcements include Cope Equities’ $250M mixed-use project and a planned H-E-B grocery store near the Texas Instruments campus.

➥ THE TAKEAWAY

Beyond the fab: North Texas’ semiconductor expansion is no longer just about chip plants — it’s becoming a full industrial ecosystem. Suppliers, housing developers, retailers, and infrastructure players are all moving in alongside the manufacturing giants, reshaping smaller communities like Van Alstyne into strategic growth markets.
