Carrier Plans $600M Fort Worth Advanced Manufacturing Hub
  • Carrier will invest more than $600M over three years to convert roughly half of a 1.2M SF Hillwood building at AllianceTexas into an advanced manufacturing and engineering center.
  • The plan adds offices, mezzanines and infrastructure for three production lines making commercial chillers used in data centers, healthcare, education and industrial buildings, with 1,500 jobs expected.
  • The project joins Celestica, Wistron, Bell and MP Materials among North Texas manufacturing investments, reinforcing the region’s appeal for large-format industrial space.
Key Takeaways

AllianceTexas keeps landing big factories: Carrier will put more than $600 million into a 1.2M SF Fort Worth building over three years, according to Bisnow.

Bisnow reported the center should employ 1,500 people and start production next year.

What Carrier Is Building

Carrier will renovate about half of Hillwood’s Alliance Westport 12 building at 1501 Distribution Drive. The project details come from a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing cited by Bisnow.

The work includes additional office space and mezzanines. It also calls for a new elevator and systems to support three production lines.

These lines will expand production of thermal management systems. These include air- or water-cooled commercial chillers. Such equipment serves data centers, healthcare facilities, schools and industrial buildings.

The Pitch

Carrier CEO David Gitlin said the investment will expand the company’s U.S. manufacturing and engineering footprint. He added that it will also strengthen supply chain resilience.

Meanwhile, Robert Allen, who leads the Fort Worth Economic Development Partnership, highlighted Alliance’s role in the region. He said the choice of the 27,000-acre development shows Fort Worth is becoming a center for advanced manufacturing.

Bisnow described Carrier as the largest U.S. maker of HVAC equipment.

A Crowded Alliance

Bisnow highlighted several other major projects in the area. For example, Celestica plans an $876 million campus spanning more than 1 million SF. Meanwhile, Wistron opened a $700 million plant in July to make components for Nvidia supercomputers. A second facility is also in the works.

Additionally, Bell Textron is building a $632 million aircraft-parts factory. MP Materials, meanwhile, is investing more than $1.2 billion in a 120-acre magnet campus in Northlake, just north of Fort Worth.

The Celestica $876 million campus in May. The project is expected to create about 1,700 jobs. It will also produce liquid-cooling and power equipment for AI data centers.

Why It Matters

Carrier’s chillers connect the project to rising data center demand. That same trend is driving several other Alliance developments. More broadly, the area offers large buildings with access to rail and highways.

Fort Worth is also using incentives to attract manufacturers. For instance, reported on a Harting abatement for a $192.7 million plant expected to add 700 jobs.

What’s Next

Carrier expects to begin operations next year. Watch whether suppliers follow and whether more of Alliance shifts toward advanced manufacturing.
