RentCafe’s 2025 rankings reflect a clear shift in renter preferences — Southern cities now dominate the national landscape. Out of 150 cities analyzed, 41 Southern metros ranked, with McKinney, TX, topping the list for affordability and livability.
The report assessed cities using 20 key metrics. These included apartment availability, job prospects, air quality, and commute times. Proximity to green spaces was also considered. All metrics were grouped into three main categories: cost of living and housing, local economy, and quality of life.
